When it should be used
Early on, where there are concerns an employee’s performance or motivation is dipping. It is better to address any issues at an early stage to help the employee get back on track before it escalates.
Purpose
This is a supportive but fairly formal conversation to address early signs of underperformance before the issues escalate to the poor performance stage.
