In Appraisd, appraisals can be set up by managers or administrators.


If you are a manager and your team member doesn't have any appraisal in progress, you will see a button allowing you to set up one. There are two ways to access the button:

  1. Go to 'Your team' at the top of page to view cards of your team members. People without an appraisal in progress will have a link 'Set up an appraisal' displayed.
  2. Go to 'Your team', open your team member's profile by clicking their name and select 'Appraisal' tab where you find 'Set up an appraisal' button.

Click on the link or the button, fill out the appraisal details (e.g. Title, Due date) and an appraisal is ready for you and your team member to complete.


As an administrator, you can set up an appraisal on an individual basis or in bulk.

Setting up an appraisal for one individual

To add an appraisal for a specific individual (without any other appraisal in progress):

  1. Use the search field within the cog menu to look up the person
  2. Go to the 'Appraisals' tab of their profile
  3. Use the 'Set up an appraisal' button you will find there

Alternatively, you can set up an appraisal via Administration centre. This can be used when the individual already has an appraisal in progress and you need to add another ad-hoc appraisal. In general, we suggest that each individual should have only one appraisal in progress to ensure high completion rates but there might be occasions where you need to do so.

  1. Go to the Administration centre
  2. Open Reports: appraisal list
  3. Click 'Add a new appraisal' and fill out the details

Setting up appraisals in bulk

To set up appraisals in bulk:

  1. Go to the Administration centre
  2. Open Reports: appraisal list
  3. Click 'Add appraisals in bulk'
  4. Fill out the details and click 'Add appraisals in bulk' at the bottom


  • The bulk set-up doesn't allow you to add appraisals for people who already have another appraisal in progress. For these individuals, use the ways described above.

  • If you'd like to add appraisals in bulk only for certain individuals, check if you have 'Bulk editing' feature on (Administration centre -> Settings -> Labs -> Enable making changes in bulk:on).

  • If you have created a special form for each individual/department and you'd like to use these for the appraisals you're setting up, make sure you have specified the forms in people's profiles:

    1. Go to the Administration centre -> Settings -> Forms -> and set 'Restrict to the form chosen by Administrators' to On
    2. Go to the People tab, click Edit next to users' names and specify the correct form in their profile.
